In the state of Texas, there are certain specific requirements that all potential teachers must meet in order to get their Texas teacher certification. The education board in Texas has devised a set or regulations that clearly set forth the procedures and requirements for becoming a teacher. These regulations were drafted by professionals, based on information gathered through countless hours of research, study, and interviews with retired and current educators, as well as current and former students. This was done to get a balanced view on what type of teachers should be permitted to teach in the state of Texas, and how to create an application process that allows the desired teachers to become accredited.
The education board ultimately decided that in order get a Texas teacher certification and become authorized to teach in Texas, prospective teachers must have a bachelor’s degree. If they have the required amount of higher education, they must then take a teacher training course and then take a certification test in order to get their Texas teacher certification. These may seem like strict policies, but they were created with the best interest of Texas students at heart. The citizens of Texas demand nothing less than the absolute best education for their children, and it is the duty of the government on both a county and state level to try to provide this by only allowing premium teaching candidates to receive their Texas teacher certification through an extensive and exhaustive application process. In order to be legally allowed to teach in Texas, teachers must get a Texas teacher certification. Therefore the local government can keep tabs on who becomes a teacher by making the certification process difficult.

I recently received an email from a parent of a boy who I had tutored last year. He asked me where he could find good worksheets on the internet for his son. I thought, “Admirable…a parent who wants to help his child.”
But then I asked him why he wanted the worksheets. In his next email he wrote, “I want to drill division into my son’s head until he knows it like the back of his hand.”
Okay. Great, so he’ll find a slew of worksheets. Then what? Who is going to teach his son how to divide?
You can’t just get on a bike for the first time and expect to ride it!!! You need someone to guide you!
Worksheets are fine, but, only after proper instruction. There’s no point on doing division (or any other math skill) IF YOU”RE DOING IT WRONG!!! What this father should have been looking for (rather than math worksheets on the web) is some quality instruction. He could have looked for an in-home tutor (he moved far away in case you were wondering why I still didn’t tutor his son), a tutoring school, or an online tutor (Tutorgiant anyone?).
I kindly suggested to him that he should spend his time seeking quality instruction because his son will ‘learn’ how to divide properly rather than depending on math worksheets. In his next email, he just thanked me (I’m not sure what he chose to do).

Due to the recent economic recession, more and more people have been thinking over going back to school. Now that the masses have found themselves without employment, they have to figure out a way to put themselves in the best position possible for when the economy turns around. Whether this is through advanced learning or a different avenue, many people have a big interest in gaining their masters in education. Gaining a masters in education will not only allow you to have access and meet the requirements to better paying jobs, but it will also allow you to compete with those coming right out of college. Sure you have experience on your resume, but when businesses and schools are going to start hiring again they are going to try to get a person with the highest education for the least amount of money. That might mean offering less benefits and 401k’s, things that a more experienced person is probably expecting. By gaining your masters in Education you will be able to not only earn a larger income but you will also be able to broaden your job search. No more will you be limited in your search because gaining masters truly will open up a lot of doors for you.
