Approximately half a million children of school age may study outside the school classroom. Since many kids who go home only a few years, the percentage of children who reach the age of 18 with some home-school experience will be greater than 1 percent. To estimate the number of children involved in home schooling within its borders, a country can be started with the database itself, if a state does not collect data, assessment of families who are members of associations and regional states could be used as a starting point.
